Mandatory Insurance Coverage – ICBC Basic Autoplan Insurance
To legally operate a vehicle in this province you must carry a minimum amount of insurance from the Insurance Corporation of British Columbia (ICBC). This mandatory insurance insures that every driver in BC has basic insurance to cover losses they might cause others to suffer (Liability) and to cover for their own medical expenses and loss of income resulting from driving-related injuries (Accident Benefits/Bodily Injury or AB/BI).
Basic Autoplan does not cover:
• travel outside of Canada and the United States. If you are driving into Mexico, for example, be sure to buy extra insurance before you cross the border!.
• the replacement of, or repairs to, your vehicle, or many other risks that are covered in optional insurance
See below for optional insurance coverage. If you have additional questions, please contact us for competent advice.
For additional details on the Basic Autoplan, you can also visit this ICBC site.
Optional Insurance Coverage – ICBC Optional Autoplan Insurance
Optional insurance coverage for your vehicle provides further protection and peace of mind for you. We highly recommend you look into your options beyond basic autoplan. Basic Autoplan does not cover the replacement of, or repairs to your vehicle, or many other risks that are covered in optional insurance.
Optional insurance will cover risks related to:
• Collision (coverage for damage to your car)
• Comprehensive (protection against theft, vandalism and other perils )
• Specified perils
• Vehicle in storage
• Limited depreciation coverage
• Replacement cost coverage
• Collector and vintage vehicles
• Extended third-party legal liability
• Excess underinsured motorist protection
• Loss of use
• Vehicle travel protection
Please contact us for an explanation of these insurance coverages, and knowledgeable advice on your best options. You can also visit the ICBC website.

Insuring your teen? What you should know.
With each year of accident-free driving experience, your teen will earn a 5% Claims Free Experienced Driver’s discount for up to eight years, and will then be eligible for the Road Star 43% discount.
Did you know that experience “time” starts accumulating from the time your teen receives his/her learner’s license? * Even if your teen is not planning to drive for a while, getting their learner’s license early helps them accumulate experience time, allowing them to receive a 25% discount by the time they are 21, if they remain claims free.
*Providing there is no lapse of the learners’ or novice licenses.
