Mandatory Auto Insurance in BC : Basic ICBC Autoplan

To legally operate a vehicle in British Columbia you must carry minimum coverage from the Insurance Corporation of British Columbia (ICBC). This insures that every car, truck and vehicle driver in BC has basic auto insurance to cover losses they might cause others to suffer (Liability) and to cover for their own medical expenses and loss of income resulting from driving-related injuries (Accident Benefits/Bodily Injury or AB/BI).

 Basic ICBC Autoplan does not cover:

• Travel outside of Canada and the United States. If you are driving into Mexico, for example, be sure to buy extra car insurance before you cross the border.
• The replacement of, or repairs to, your vehicle, or many other risks that are covered in optional insurance.
