Checklist for Out-of-Province Vehicle Registration
In BC your vehicle registration, license plate and insurance are all acquired through an Autoplan broker such as Bill Hartley Insurance Services.
To legally operate a vehicle in this province, you must carry a minimum amount of insurance from the Insurance Corporation of British Columbia (ICBC). Increased coverage is available, and strongly recommended, in order to provide you with proper protection.
Registering and insuring your vehicle involves several steps. We will be happy to help you in this process, which may take up to an hour. For most efficient use of your time, please contact us for an appointment and let our staff help you make an informed choice.
Some documents will be required to process your registration. Contact us and we will help you determine which documents you require from the list below. Please note that the vehicle owner needs to be the one to sign all papers.
To acquire your BC driver’s license, please contact the Driver Services Centre. There are two locations in Victoria:
McKenzie Avenue Driver Services Center
1150 Mckenzie Avenue
Saanich BC V8P 5P5
Hours of operation: Mondays and Tuesdays, 8:30 am to 4:30 pm
Wednesday to Friday, 7:30 am to 7:30 pm
Wharf Street Driver Services Center
955 Wharf Street
Victoria BC V8P 2L7
Hours of operation: Monday to Friday, 8:30 am to 4:30 pm
Be sure to go over ICBC’s Checklist for Out-of-Province Vehicle Registration (PDF). You might not require every item on the list. Give us a call and we will help you to determine which items are necessary for your situation.
